Good Times!

With the help of Daniels sisters I have spent the last couple of months planning my mother-n-laws Surprise 60th Birthday Party and today was the big day! Now, everyone knows that I LOVE a party of any sort but I am especially fond of birthday parties because I believe everyone should celebrate the day that they were born. I am NOT of the belief that as you age that you stop having birthday parties! Most people who know me, know this! : ) Ok, back to what I was saying, Everything came together fabulously and when Nancy walked in it was SO satisfying watching her get caught completely off guard and sob into her hands. She was So blessed and truly touched by the fact that this was for her! Apparently she had never had a surprise party before(I had my first one in 3rd grade)! How does someone go 60 yrs and not have a Surprise party? Thats MADNESS! LOL! Anyway, I thought I would post some pics and show you the Fabulous cake that Des made for the occasion. Thanks Des! :)
Oh and if any of you know someone that has Never had a surprise party then GET PLANNING!

I have made it 50 years and have never had a surprise Birthday Party! Of course every time your Dad tries to plan something I figure it out in advance.

Looks like you had fun! Beautiful cake. I hope Desiree is starting her own bakery. We have a bakery here that makes cakes like that. They start out at $75 and go up from there.

Sue, You have Never had a surprise party?!? Thats gives us all something to works towards then. :) Dad, you need to be a bit sneekier! lol!
Of course, I guess if someone doesnt like surprises then it wouldnt be the best gift, but I LOVE them so I am only speaking from my own emotional needs. :)
Thats the other thing I meant to ask, Whats your take on cake? Imo I think the cake says A TON about how much time, energy and creativity a person is willing to spend on someone so its HUGE to me. Daniel didnt get that when I explained it to him, he said "a cake is a cake". What do you guys think?

I TOTALLY agree with you on cake. If someone made me an awesome cake I'd probably cry. ;)

Oh, the cake is one of the major aspects of the party planning process. Your whole theme works around it. Des and people who can make cakes like that rock!! I wish I was in Valpo cause I've got a little one that will be 2 soon! he..he...

I love Nancy's expression, priceless!

P.S. Most guys don't know jack about cakes...LOL!

Nancy deserved every bit of love that went into planning that party! Great job!

cake is NOT cake. take it from the party lady! there are crappy cakes that taste like cardboard with crappy grainy sugary frosting on top. then there are wonderful, thick, poundcake-like concoctions with smooth whipped cream frosting or fun fondants. the trick is to make it look great AND taste great; most people who make cakes (in my experience) can do one or the other, not both. i've seen a couple of des's now, and they're gorgeous! and the sheet cakes she did for the wedding we did in july were VERY tasty, so i'm sure this was good too; she's good at everything she does:)

Pat Parker made our wedding cake, and it was not only GORGEOUS (I'll email you a picture if you want proof) but it was DELICIOUS. In fact, I couldn't wait for our first anniversary... I ate the whole top layer. It was gone a week after the wedding. ;) Hee hee hee.
