Boobies on a Plane!

Ok, Well it seems that we all have our opinions on breastfeeding and parenting! THe 130 or so comments racked up pretty fast, and all from a post about my family pisture! LOL :) So, this is somewhat in conjunction with that whole topic. I was watching Dr Phil the other day and it was about Home schooling vs public/private schooling. THese people were getting really pissed off at some of these home schoolers because they didnt agree with it. As I was watching it I started to wonder Why these people care who is home schooled and who is sent to school away from home? I have someone in my extended family (who obviously does not read this blog :))who gets Very passionate about the fact that children should ONLY be sent to Public school. Who the heck cares!!!!! Its kind of similiar to the question that I asked in my comments in my last post about why my pediatrician cares if my son is still nursing at night or if I choose to co sleep. As long as we are not neglecting our children why do people care what parenting style we choose. I know alot of people that do not choose to co sleep but that doesnt mean that I think that they are a bad parent. I understand if people want to share their opinions, I am ALL for that because I think that we need to be educated about other views, but this, my way or no way, thing is crap. Anybody got any thoughts?

Ooh! Great topic! I was homeschooled! And I was homeschooled back in the day when it was frowned upon and almost illegal! I remember people asking my mom when we would be at the grocery store at 11:00am on a Tuesday, "Why isn't your little girl at school today?" I did go to kindergarten in a public school. Then I went to 1st grade for like a month in a private Christian school. My parents pulled me out because, well, basically, I was too smart. Please don't think I'm tooting my own horn because believe me, it all caught up with me. :) I was totally bored with 1st grade work and was teased at school because the teacher would ask me to help the older kids with their work (the class was actually 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade all together--have no idea why) So my parents decided to homeschool me. My mom taught me until about 6th grade. From 6th-8th grade, our former Pastor's wife, who was a certified teacher, tutored me and my best friend 2 days a week. For highschool, I attended "Teenworks" which is like a private school with actual teachers, but still considered homeschooling.

I do not at ALL feel like I missed out on the whole school experience. It really was what was best for me, and my parents knew that. I'm sure if I had gotten to high school age and wanted to go to public school, my parents would have let me. I did miss out on things like organized sports and whatnot, but I didn't care. We did have some organized things like skiing and skating and stuff, which we went to. Now, 20 years later, homeschool can do everything! From proms to yearbooks to basketball and senior trips... it's come a long way!

I think this is the same concept as with parenting styles--Listening and knowing your child and knowing what is best for them. I'm interested to find out what others think... (By the way, Boobies on a Plane as the title..too funny!!!)

Then you have the issue of whether the parents are good teachers or not. I know someone who was homeschooled who sat around and played video games all day, and then couldn't pass their high school equivalency test. But I know more people who were homeschooled and graduated high school when they're 16. I think it's wrong of parents to homeschool their children if they're not going to do a good job. But if they're truly teaching their children the things they need to know, I say go for it!

I used to think I would homeschool our children until they hit middle or high school, but now that I go to Immanuel I think I'll send them there for elementary/middle school. It's a great school, with wonderful teachers (Alli being one of them) and I like the idea of a Lutheran education. :)

The title was all for you babe! :)

Yah, I think homeschooling is definitlly a good option for some. I think it takes extra effort on the parents part to keep kids up with things socially and academiclly. Like you said its SOOO much easier these days because its done so much more and there are so many options for home schoolers. I think that there are different options for schooling for kids because there is no cookie cutter style for every child. Some will bloom better in one situation than another. Thats why it bothers me when people make blanket statments against one or the other. I am sure it is based on their own experience perhaps, but one persons experience is not everyones.
Example, My sister n law (who is VERY MUCH against ANYHTING but public school) had a bad experience herself in private school, therefor she thinks they should all be shut down. lol! I on the other hand HATED public school and found my niche when I went to a private christian school. Now, I dont have any problem with public schools, I do have a problem with the girls in Raleigh who made it a pass time to make fun of me (Brooke Sykes) LOL :). Anyway, we wont go into that..hahaha. All that to say everybody has to do what is best for their family.

Sara, I miss you.

I always wonder about why people take such a passionate stance in regards to how others live their lives. I don't get it. Who cares what people do in their own homes as long as its within the bounds of the law and respect of everyone's right to be free?

If my gay neighbors want to get married, who am I or anyone else to tell them they can't? If my aunt chooses to home school my cousin, why does my grandmother care as long as my cousin is getting an edcuation? It's mind boggling. People need to mind their own business, stop forcing their views on everyone and this world would be a better place.

We're not all the same, we're different- that is what is so great about this country.

Okay, there was my liberal rant for you. Loves!

OOOOOOOh! Could We? That would Rock!! :)

Oh, Kendrah! I miss you too!!!
yes, I have to say that I am one for keeping things within boundries of the law. :) That part is pretty important to me!

I don't get it either! I know many people who Homeschool and it has come a long way. There are so-ops now, where different moms specialize in each subject. So, the teaching is much more in depth and specialized. There are YMCA and other athletic program for homeschoolers and social groups. I read a shirt one time that was so funny...it said:

"Caution: Unsocialized Homeschooler!"

I thought that was hilarious because most people think of homeschoolers as not being "socialized."

Elizabeth F. said...

so-ops = co-ops....oops!

Elizabeth F. said...

Oh! And we have to remember that some people use home-schooling as an alternative to traditional schooling for various reasons. Some kids have behavior issues, social problems (being bullied, etc...)medical reasons or other reasons that I'm probably unaware of. Some kids probably do well schooling at home, while others do not. I think a parent needs to take into account their child's individual needs and not just home-school for their own reasons regardless of the situation. The bottom line is that it is a personal choice and the parent knows what is best for their kid. Who are we to judge?

Exactly!!!!

Day and I have talked about homeschooling Annalynn. His brother has 4 kids. Ages 12, 10, 6 and 1, or close to that. The older 2 were homeschooled for a few years. The 3rd one needed a little different structure...they live in Michigan City and were concerned about some school issues so decided against sending them to public school.....victory christian academy in valop came along a couple years ago and they decided to give it a try. Expensive, but very worth it. And the oldest two fit rightin and did very well. both are getting excellent grades and socialize very well...and the 3rd one that was having some struggles is coming along. I am not tooting mine or Annalynn's horns, but at 2 years old, this child was navigating a website on her own.....at 3 months shy of 3, she knows several entire books by heart, knows how to turn on the computer, put a CD in, turn it "on" and navigate around to play a game. She knows when the computer freezes up (we've been having problems with mine) and one day heard Day on speaker phone telling me "just take the CD out of your computer and have her play it on mine...) by the time we were done talking, she had shut mine down, took the CD out, put it in his, started it up and started her game. She knows several songs by heart (some she can't enunciate all the words, but you know what she's saying) like the "shrek song" (somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me, I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed....) whatever that's called. Okay, in March she'll be 3. this kid has been playing with "ages 3 and up" toys for some time...........in my opinion, learning the abcs in kindergarten is going to be WAY boring. She's known them for some time and I'm not just saying "abcdefg..." several months ago, if we were walking into kmart, she'd look up and say "k" "t" If I spell "cat" "sun" "box" she knows what they are. the other night I spelled "milk" and she said "can I have some milk in my sippy cup?" Day and I about crapped ourselves. I might have to homeschool this kid for a bit just to keep her out of trouble.........problem is....I DONT KNOW IF I'LL BE SMART ENOUGH!!! hahaha.

I think some people were shocked after meeting me to find out that I was homeschooled. Because, like Elizabeth said, they thought I would be a socially retarded human being. ;) Now, I'm not the most outgoing person in the world, like say, Sara (I've only met you once Sara, but you are a blast and you seem totally outgoing!) But I don't sit in a corner at gatherings trying to avoid eye contact with others. ;) The thing is, I totally know people like that and they weren't homseschooled! It's all about the person.

And Patty--my friends little boy is like that--a child genius! At 4 he was playing games like Skip-Bo and Uno and winning with no help from anyone! He's such a smart little cookie!

Daniel said...

Pat, can you please post your home address on a comment? I'm reporting you and Day to the CPS for giving Annalynn games for Ages 3 and up. There could be choking hazzards!!!

Sarafu said...

Hey, Maybe Annalyn could tutor Jack. Haha! He is pretty average when it comes to stuff like that I think. He knows alot of letters by sight and he knows his ABCs but I am sure its just a song to him. He for sure does not know how to spell, so Annalyn is way ahead of him on that. He also DOES NOT like to preform his knowledge. Its is awful trying to get him to do anything academicly for me. He will do things on his own but if I ask him to count or do his ABCs he gets all embarrased and refuses. Its weird, whos child is he???? :)

Not sure what we are doing with Jack yet, school wise, I mean. I thought about homeschooling but I would have to see if he would stay focused with me. Plus, I am not the most focused person myself! HeeHee. Victory is also a school we have thought about. We have heard nothing but good stuff about it. We have 2 years still so I am not too worried.
Hey, Birdie, I would never have thought that you were homeschooled. Of course I am not one of those who thinks that homeschoolers turn out socially retarded. I think that there are lots of people in public schools or private for that matter that get made fun of their whole life and turn into that person in the corner of the room trying not to make eye contact. Again, different people have different needs.

Sarafu said...

LOL!!! I just read my husbands comment! HAHAHAHAHAH!

Elizabeth F. said...

Ok...Sara you really only have about 1 year to decide. Our boys will start Kindergarten in 1.5 years. And if you choose to do something other than public school...say Victory, you have to get on the waiting list super early. Like next Jan probably to ensure your spot. Not to rush you or anything!!!

About School...The kids should already know their ABC's for Kindergarten, and be able to recognize each letter, and what sound it makes and pretty much be ready to start reading. They need to know how to count 1-20 and recognize those letters, and her address and phone number, parent's real names etc... I'm sure Annalynn will know pretty much all of that, but I think Kindergarten is mostly a SOCIAL step. Zoe knew all of that stuff already, but the things that she has learned have been: how to read, tie her shoes, rules regarding riding the bus, social ettiquette with friends, tons of songs that I did not know, and many other that I cannot think of right now.I could probably homeschool Zoe, but she loves to go to school and I love the break! Sounds bad, but she drives everyone in the house crazy when she's here. She has so much energy, and she gets bored here with us. Kindergarten is full-day here too!

I guess we have been lucky. Her teacher does not hold back the ones who are advanced for the rest of the class to catch up. She lets them proceed to the next step. God totally answered our prayers with Mrs. Green. She's awesome. There is no one else that I would have trusted my BABY with for Kindergarten! Things all work out for the best with prayer.

Sarafu said...

Yes, I guess your right, I only have about a year. Man, time flies. I think that Daniel and I will start discussing it this summer maybe. I just want to see where Jack is at that point. He knows pretty much all that stuff with the exception of his phone # and address and a few letters I think. Getting him to preform them is a whole different story. :) I am sure that he has alot to learn before kindegarten but he is learning new stuff everyday. Its AMAZING to me how quickly they can learn things! I remember thinking that he would Never talk because he was still not talking much at 2 and then overnight it seemed he just started talking a TON. Its Crazy!!!
Zoe would go crazy if she was at home all day. She is a little social butterfly just like her aunt fufu. :) I am so glad that she is in such a great class and having so much fun! I miss her! :(

Elizabeth F. said...

I asked Xander today what his phone number was...he said 1214 Burnt Mill Road!!! ha..ha...We have a little work to do. He was on the right track though. That's our address (almost).
Oh! And he cannot pronounce "Elizabeth" so we will have to work on that too!

They really do learn and grow so much from age 4-5. Zoe didn't know that stuff until she was in pre-k. Oh...and today she came home and announced that they cannot watch The Grinch at school b/c it is not a "G" movie. Hilarious! So, she started going through all the kids movies picking out the "G" ones. Funny things they learn in school. We have never had that discussion before, b/c they mostly watch PBS.

i totally admire moms who homeschool, because i'm lucky if i get the "home" part right...let alone the "school" part!!! being a mom is so hard, and anyone who says they have THE way to do it should be shot by the rest of us who are lucky to just get a shower in every day:) there are lots of ways to raise a healthy child, and although we all have our soapboxes (anyone who's ever talked to me about vaccines or organic food know I certainly have my own!) we also need to help each other as mommies just SURVIVE EVERY DAY:)

Elizabeth F. said...

Amen, Jen!

Anonymous said...

So Jenny-- Are you for or against vaccines and organic food? I have a friend who is totally all into that. When I found out she didn't vaccinate her kids, I was shocked! I didn't know that was even an option! I didn't even ask her the reasons why she wouldn't vaccinate her kids and I certainly don't think she's a horrible mother or anything. Maybe someone can enlighten me on the facts...

Elizabeth F. said...

Oh Lord, Birdie! You didn't just ask to open that can of worms did you? he..he.. Go Jenny, the floors all yours!

Ps. I do vaccinate, basically b/c when I had my 1st child I wasn't educated about the subject. Then, it's hard to change and do something different for the rest of them. But, I disagree with Flu Vaccines and chicken pox shots. They do not protect 100% and you have to get booster shots when you are older to get the full protection. You can get the shots and still get Flu or chicken pox...just a different strain.I do wholeheartedly believe in eating Organic, although it's hard to do that on a budget. But, we try!

Anonymous said...

I think vaccines are fine, as long as they aren't made using human embryos.

Elizabeth F. said...

many common ones are! Jenny really needs to respond! She is well-versed on this topic. The vaccines that are piggy-backed like MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) use this stuff to make the different vaccines to "stick" together. It goes by a number on the packing, but it is really aborted fetal tissue. Sorry for the uneducated version, but Jenny knows all the real info! Where are you Jen? Help!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Jenny, whenever you get a chance, I need to know how and where to get the vaccines that aren't made from babies!

Thanks!

Anonymous said...

ok, i will only do this because you've all given your permission!!! i do not vaccinate, i do do organic food. here are a few of the reasons. first of all many vaccines do contain human embryos as a "medium" to tone down the potency of the disease before injecting the disease into my babies. NOPE! second i don't like the one size fits all approach to healthcare that vaccinating all children at the same age with the same potency suggests. every single human body is different and should be treated as such. third the medical community IS NOT EDUCATED in why we vaccinate...we just do it because "we're supposed to." (humor me and do an experiment: ask your doctor or health department what the recipe is for the vaccine they'd like to inject into your little one. they have no idea. that terrifies me.) there are websites that explain more, and excellent books (one is called "What your doctor won't tell you about vaccines" get it at barnes and nobles). i won't get into the WHOLE story but i have an autistic daughter that may or may not be due to the MMR shot...just a lot to think about that's all!!

OK I'M DONE, YOU GUYS ASKED FOR IT:)

Anonymous said...

p.s. there are great homeopathic vaccines that contain chicken or monkey embryos that do the same thing as the human ones. there are also "untainted" vaccines from Japan that a good homeopathic/naturopathic doctor can get. for more education on the human embryo topic look up Children of God for Life. Catholic group that is AMAZINGLY up to date (obviously pro-life anyway) and you can get on their mailing list to find out about bills that are going to be passed, politicians to contact, etc)

Speaking of Vaccines, I just want to say how much I HATE the chickenpox vaccine!!! Ughhhh, my son is never going to get the freaking chickenpox because everyone gets that stupid vaccine! When he is 26 (when its dangerous) he will end up getting them though because he forgot to get his booster! How many adults remember to go get their booster shots? So Ridiculous. Anyway, I thought I would throw that in.

Anonymous said...

Wait, they give a chickenpox vaccine? Why in the world would they do that? Doesn't everyone get chicken pox? Don't you want your kids to get it when they're young, rather than when they're older and it could kill them? I'm confused.

Sarafu said...

Yah, I'm confused too! It is a great idea because there are some children who have certain conditions that can make the chickenpox extremly dangerous and sometimes fatal. For those cases and for adults who may have never gotten them for one reson or another I think it was a great invention. The problem is that it is a part of the routine shots that they now give 2 year olds. I declined it for Jack and they kept telling me that I couldnt. LOL! Oh, yes, I can, and I did. Now I just have to figure out how to get him exposed to the chicken pox. Since everyone gets the vaccine its hard to get actually get the chicken pox.

Anonymous said...

Tell you what, Sara. Let's make a pact that once I have children, if one of our kids gets chicken pox, we promise to let the other one's kids come over and roll around the floor with the sick one. :)

Anonymous said...

Jenny, can you recommend a doctor who would be able and willing to provide the non-human-embryo vaccines? Not that I even have kids yet, but this is good info to have.

i go to brian mcguckin for all my homeopathic stuff, and chiropractic stuff, and autism stuff...he's very into a holistic approach and everyone at the vineyard goes to him (kotys's, swansons, cindy dixon, pat parker got PREGNANT because of him!) he's on marquette road in valpo back by porter starke area...does free 30 minute consultations if you wanna just "check him out" (i've sent so many people to him i should get a trip to the bahamas!)

speaking of chicken pox, we didn't get the shot either (surprise surprise) and now i have a 9 and 6 year old who've never gotten chicken pox. i'm to the point where if i could find a child who had it we'd go lick him... :)

You should get in on the pact, Jenny! Whoever has children with chicken pox first, invite everyone else over for a pox party!

Thanks for the info! I will definitely check out Dr. Mcguckin when it comes time!

The only issue is that I think in the next year or so, Chicken Pox vaccine will be a requirement for school. I know Jenny's school is pretty leniant, but others are not. It may be a hurdle for some of you.

Did you know that "shingles" is a form of chicken pox? Apparantly, the chicken pox virus lays dormant in your system (only if you've had chicken pox, obviously) and can re-appear later on in life as shingles? And trust me, I'd MUCH rather have the chicken pox. I had shingles last year and it was horrid. Itching, burning, almost painful. And only on one side of your body--very strange.

And thanks for the info on the vaccines and whatnot. I was just curious as to the whys.

John F. said...

yep-shingles. Our SIL Bethany had shingles one time and half of her face was paralyzed! She could not smile! It does go away I guess...like a virus.

Sarafu said...

Problem is that shingles wont kill you as far as I know and if you get the chicken pox later in life it can be VERY dangerous!!!

patty said...

Okay, my pediatrician is a Christian and is very lenient on things and understood my concerns. He gave me good info and I emailed this hospital in PA and told them of some of my concerns about vaccinations and what research I'd done on them. one of "the" doctors from that hospital CALLED me the NEXT day to have a conversation with me. I felt he was honest and this is what he told me. The original strain of the vaccination was "grown" in aborted fetal tissue from (can't remember if it was 2 or 3) fetuses that were aborted in the 60s due to the mothers having rubella. There was no treatment at the time and although some moms opted to have kids and take the chance to see how they "turned out" there were 2 moms that had issues with their own health and the babies were not in good shape. So they aborted them. They were not "planned parenthood" abortions. They were developing the vaccines at the time and used the lung tissue because of cellular makeup to "grow" the vaccines in. Those were the original vaccine strains that the rest came from. Kind of like the "starter dough" for friendship bread idea....anyway. He said that's the issue with the MMR vaccine. Some of the other vaccines are actually made with chicken embryos and duck embryos. Not all vaccines (depends on the company that makes them) have human embryo "generation" cells. (you know, like 5th generation pot was grown from a plant that was grown from a plant.....) He said the concern over the piggyback shots, MMR, DtP, etc....is the element, and I think it was mercury or a strain of....that was used to "separate" the vaccines within the one shot. ONe shot is easier than 3 was the idea, but shots like PediaRx contained it at one time(I can't think of the nameof the "bad" element....) but he said after a certain expiration date, that ingredient had been removed due to these concerns. SO, what he said is find out the expiration date, and who makes the shot to see where it stands. I did the first 2 rounds before I knew this. AFter I found all this out, I talked to Dr. McGuckin and told him of my concerns with doing vaccines and not doing them. I wanted to do certain ones and he sat down with me and worked out a "delayed schedule." so we didn't do 5 shots at once. We did them one at a time and waited several months between. The doc from Philadelphia also suggested I do that and he is obviously a proponent of vaccines. So my "hard time" with the health dept nurses was constantly hearing "so you're going to make her go through this 12 times rather than 3??!!" and I'd have to shake my head yes and just suck up the sighs and nasty looks. I can guarantee you THEY probably didn't know what was in those shots or the expiration dates if I'd asked. And Dr. Lin, Annalynn's Ped, says "we can wait til she's 4 to do the MMR." Most have it done by 2. I am still going to hold off on that one. I do know that you can go to certain places like the University of Chicago hosp ( I think it is...) and get JUST a measles vaccine. Or JUST a mumps vaccine. Not sure what we'll do, but that's one I am not convinced is safe yet. Dr. McGuckin also said if we decided to vaccinate, that waiting on certain ones, like the MMR, is better when the liver is more mature and able to process certain things in vaccines. And also waiting til a child is neurologically more mature as well. So, that's what we did. No MMR and no chicken pox and most of the others were one at a time and far between. And I like LaPorte health dept MUCH better than Valpo, we only did one here, but they let your child sit ON YOUR LAP and they just roll up a pantleg and "bink" and it's done. Annalynn did MUCH better here. They were nicer too. Valpo just SUCKED. SO, that's where I stand on this.

patty said...

And here's where I stand on the organic food thing....Dr.McGuckin told me recently, that basically if money is the issue and you want to do SOME organic at least, do organic apples, grapes, stuff that you eat the skin. Pineapple, banana, oranges, etcc....don't make as much a difference if you can't afford all organic. I also have been giving Annalynn organic milk (yeah, at $8 a gallon.....) and this is why. I started it awhile ago. Money got tight a few times and I'd run out and just give her our milk. A few days later she'd be a WILD CHILD. I'd find myself on the phone talking to Day going "I don't know WHAT the deal is today...." and after doing this a few times and him asking what I fed her, the common element was "regular"milk. I talked to Jenny and what Dr. McG had told her was the hormones in the milk are not good......duh...just like in us moms that breastfeed, "don't take this drug........don't take that..." because it passes thru the milk. Farmers in this day and age pump their cows full of hormones to keep milk production up and that stuff PASSES THROUGH the milk.......so I have noticed this in Annalynn and as long as she drinks her organic milk, she's not such a drama queen. I also have started buying organic chicken at Beef Mart. I called "Au Naturel" and it's $3.75 a pound!!!!! Beef Mart sells it for $1.69 a pound. They cut it up and wrap it in paper. I ordered 10 last week. WONDERFUL. It tastes good without even adding any seasoning at all. Amazing difference. I baked 2 chickens for a dinner we had here the other night and the folks were commenting on how good the chicken tasted. I did not put ANY SEASONING at all on it!!!!!! Millers AMish chickens grown here in Indiana. Free range, bug eating, corn eating, no hormones or antibiotics to stimulate growth. Okay, I'll get off the box now.......

Elizabeth F. said...

Yeah, I found a web-site one time for how to do organic on a budget. They said the same thing about choosing organic things if you eat the peeling. The other thing they mentioned was more fleshy fruits like strawberries, peaches, etc... are more heavily pesticided, so strawberries are the #1 thing to buy organic if nothing else.

WOW that's a lot of info. :)

My second grade teacher was in her 30-40's. She was from the phillipenes and never vaccinated. A couple of years after I graduated she died from the chicken pox. Apparently she had gotten them and they had gone internal. I didn't even know that was possible!

patty said...

The chicken pox vaccine is one I am not totally decided on, but might get after Annalynn turns 3. Dr. Lin said it does not totally prevent them, but if a child gets them, they are likely to not get as severe a case. I have talked to several of my classmates on my classmate e-group and they have different stories. Some of their kids never got the pox after vaccinating, some did, but very little and one son got it very badly and ended up in the hospital. So I think that's one thing that obviously depends on the child and the situation. I had them when I was little. Had them horrible. But not to the point of danger or hospitalization. Guess lots of prayer to cover our kids is the best thing any of us can do.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, the problem with deciding whether to get the vaccine or not is that you basically have to guess the future. You don't know if the kids going to get it light or heavy; heck, you don't even know if the kid will get it at all!

Anonymous said...

When I got chicken pox, my older brother told me I was going to turn into a chicken. I remember so vividly going into the bathroom to look in the mirror and witness the transformation and weeping because I didn't want to turn into a chicken.

fyi the mercury component in the vaccines was called thimerasol, and it was used in vaccines where 3 diseases (like MMR) needed to be "stuck" together in the bottle in order to be injected. unfortunately it ended up hurting children (oops...) and they now manufacture vaccines without thimerasol. problem is there were vaccines sitting on doctors shelves that got "grandfathered" in, so you STILL don't know what shot your child is actually getting! so very good idea to go TO YOUR DOCTOR, NOT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT. and ask to get each shot individually, and ask to get the ones with the chicken embryos and not the human embryos, and just nod your head and be prepared for any eyerolling that may occur in your presence. happy note: my school in valpo is so used to me now the secretary had all the waivers FILLED OUT FOR ME before registration this fall so all i had to do when i got there was sign my name in 2 places. it can be done!!

patty said...

THIMERASOL, that's it. I couldn't remember it. Thanks. Hey, Jenny, I was in Kroger today and saw ORGANIC CHOCOLATE CHIPS. hahaha.

WOW! This is some great information. Who knew we were all so smart! Well, with theesception of that anonomous person. :)
I appreciate all of this info on vaccines, its good to be educated about this stuff.
I try to eat organic as much as possible and I really like what you said Pat about the milk and the meat. You know all the preservatives and crap they put in all the food has got to effect our kids in one way or the other.
Hey Jenny, Have you seen any of the studies linking the rogam shots to autism. I was talking to my friend the other day and she telling me that they had murcury in them as well and the stats are REALLY high that the children turn out autistic. Hadnt done the research myself but was wondering if you had. :)

Once I saw a special on some show about how our girls are going through puberty earlier (like 10-11-12 compared to 14-15-16 in certain other countries) and they speculated that it was because of all the hormones and chemicals in our food, especially milk and meat.

By the way, my page says 49, not 62! I'm not willing to sit and count them, though. :)

Sarafu said...

Your computer cant count!

Yah, thats the other problem with milk. ALl the hormones are causing girls to "mature" MUCH earlier now. I apparently didnt drink enough milk when I was younger then because it did not have that effect on me! LOL

Anonymous said...

Okay, now my computer says 65. It's confused!

Anonymous said...

... and it's at 49 again... ;)

LOL! :-)

That's funny-- I was talking to my mom about this yesterday and she mentioned something about the hormones and stuff making girls mature earlier. I was going to ask you all about it and it was already brought up. Very strange. She said she also heard it makes the girls a bit more, how shall I say.. endowed. I must have missed that train. :) Hee hee.

Well, I apparently drank wwwwwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy too much milk when I was little. Have they discovered any ways to reverse the effects??? :)

Anonymous said...

LOL, you did, Liz. I drank enough to have my period at 12 but not enough to have the knockers to go along with it.

Ha ha, I just said knockers.

Hmmm. I had never had any of the Rhogam shots. Okay, here's some info I'm not proud of, but my life is an open book and if I can help someone else, so be it. I had 2 abortions when I was younger, my "pre-Jesus" days. Since I have O- blood, the theory is that if you have a pregnancy, whether it goes full term or not, your body will "fight off" the next fetus as a foreign object. When Day and I got together and tried to have our first child, I never got the Rhogam shot. Apparently someone at the doc's office missed that. I was in there during the SECOND beginnings of the miscarriage and the nurse said "be sure to get your Rhogam shot at the hospital." and then she asked, "you did have one after the first miscarriage, didn't you?" Noooo, I didn't. She had a surprised look on her face and wrote something on my chart. See, as a "youth" I didn't know why I got that shot, I just did it. Tabitha Luecker was with me on that second trip. I came out and asked her about it. She told me the deal about why O- post preg gals should have it and said if they missed that on the first pregnancy, that could be the reason the second pregnancy didn't last. So, who knows. All I know is good ol' doc McG and God helped me out the FIFTH time around and here's Annalynn. And yes, I did get the shot after I had her.

OOPS I typed that wrong. yes, I HAVE had Rhogam shots. I meant to say "I hadn't heard the negative story of the Rhogam shot." It's after midnight. I"m tired. sorry.

Mrs. Sara said...

Oh my gosh, Pat. I am SO glad you mentioned the Rhogam shot. I had NO IDEA. None, whatsoever. I had never heard of this at ALL. And I'm O-, and Dan's AB+, I think. He's something positive.

Wow, Pat, thanks so much for the info!

Elizabeth F. said...

Yep-Sara! You will have to get it too! (After your first pregnancy) if baby is born with + blood type or a miscarriage. I am A- and John is A+. All of my children are A+. I think the general regimen is a shot at 18-20 weeks or so and then immediately following delivery. They feel like a little bee sting in your butt. The only thing is that they actually make the injection from your blood, so they take your blood first to make the shot. No biggie...unless, of course they FORGET to tell you to get it! Morons!

patty said...

Okay, they never drew my blood to make my shots. I've had 3 and have never had that done...???

Elizabeth F. said...

hmmm....wierd! Well, at the hospital thye may have already had a blood sample on hand, but otherwise I'm not sure what to think of that. ?? I've had about 8 of them and thay did it everytime...as far as my memory recalls anyway.:-)

Anonymous said...

I remember that my blood was tested early in the pregnancy, because I didn't know what my blood type was- and they explained that I would have to have the shot depending on what my blood type was. As things worked out, I didn't have to have it. I cannot believe they didn't explain that to you, Pat! I am so glad that things got figured out- your little girl is so cute!
